Pastor Moses Akanbi was born May 23,1954, to Joseph and Mary Akanbi.
The call of God on Pastor Akanbi`s life was
recognized early by his father Joseph, who was gifted with prophecy. In
1966, Pastor Akanbi`s father told him that God had a great use for him,
but Pastor Akanbi resisted. He still attended church, but resisted Gods
call to ministry on his life.
In 1974, while attending school at Kwara State, Pastor Akanbi traveled
on holiday with his friend Matthew and came across a Youth for Christ
crusade at a Presbyterian church in Lagos, Nigeria. Pastor Akanbi met
someone who would prove to be instrumental in his acceptance of Jesus
Christ, Mabel Frazer. While the young Moses Akanbi envisioned a romantic
encounter, Mabel's focus was on a higher prize - his salvation. She gently
steered the conversations back to the subject at hand, and continued
sharing the gospel. The scripture that Pastor Akanbi remembers most
vividly from this time is Philipians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and
again I say, Rejoice. It was during that holiday, in August of 1974, that
Pastor Akanbi accepted Christ as his Savior, but it would still be some
years before he was ready to submit and accept Jesus as Lord over his
life. |
|
Even after Moses returned to school, Mabel and her fiancé Emmanuel
stayed in touch and continued to mentor him in the gospel and embrace him
with Christ's love. They imparted their own great zeal and passion for
the gospel to Moses and became very dear friends. |
In 1976, after graduating from high school, and while searching for
employment, Moses was encouraged to consecrate himself before God and pray
for a job, since he was experiencing difficulty in finding one. So Moses
put out a fleece before the Lord: if God would give him a job that he
hadn't applied for, then he'd know that God would love and care for him.
God provided Pastor Akanbi with a position as a Post Officer, one of
the highest level positions available in the Post Office, and a position
that he hadn't applied for. The Favor of God on his life was apparent.
Before the end of that year, many people told Pastor Moses that he
should go into full time ministry, based on his zeal for the things of God,
and the grace and presence of God that rested on his life. However, at
that time, Pastor Moses resisted because he felt that he needed a job
to care for his younger siblings and widowed mother.
Pastor Moses was being encouraged to walk in the office of the Prophet,
as his father had done, but although he acknowledged the call of God on
his life, he still wasn't ready to receive the mantle of prophet. Around
that time, Pastor Moses received a vision; he saw himself in a field
preaching and ministering to large crowds. So to equip himself with the
skills he believed he needed to carry out that vision, he joined a
Christian fellowship in what is now called Koji State, that was known for
its strong evangelistic, soul-winning thrust.
At that time Pastor Moses placed another fleece before God; that if God
wanted him out of the office, and into full time ministry, he would
drive him out of the office with a clear sign. It was still 1977, and
Pastor Moses position in the Post Office included his being in charge of
returned letters. That year there was a search for a particular letter,
and because he was in charge, he was responsible for locating that
letter, and he couldn't find it. When Pastor Moses sought God about it, God
told him if he didn't quit his job voluntarily, God would force him to
leave the office.
|
|
That was when Pastor Moses surrendered to the Lords will for his life,
and went into full time ministry, and he was ordained as an
Evangelist. While he worked as an evangelist, holding bible studies, and teaching
evangelism, he realized that he still wasn't equipped enough, and so he
attended Go Ye Bible College, in Lagos, Nigeria for 1 year.In 1980 he
went to Ibadan, (largest city in Nigeria) and became a part of the Gideons
International Evangelistic Association where he preached, and
coordinated outreach efforts. The following year, in 1981, Pastor Moses came to
USA for the first time to attend Faith School of Theology in
Charleston, Maine from 1981 - 1982. His studies were discontinued because of
protest by Canadian students that Nigerian students were getting more
scholarships than Canadian students were.

Pastor Moses attended Pinecrest Bible Training Center in Salisbury
Center, NY from 1982-1983, then returned to Nigeria. Once there, he started
to unite with other churches, helping to organize them to conduct
crusades.
Between 1983-1985 he traveled back and forth between the US and Nigeria
and in 1985, the Church of God Mission, in Kwara State and served as
it's first Pastor. This church is now a large community of churches with
many branches. In 1987, he started the Living Word church, and he would
travel between the Living Word church to conduct crusades at other
churches.
During a 40 day period of fasting and prayer, the Lord told Pastor
Moses to go to Lagos. He planted a nursery and primary school, and needed
additional funding so he went to Lagos, and began walking the streets
there. There was an abandoned house in the Muslim community, and he
conducted a crusade there. God established a church called Living Word
church, it wasn't a permanent church, it was held in a school.
|
| At this time, Pastor Moses entire mind and heart was for God went out
to that Muslim community. He began to intercede for that community,
meeting with the chief of that community, and speaking with and pray for
the people.
In the place where there were mask raids, and concussion bombs, that
was the location chosen for all night prayer, and prayer walks through
the community from 12 midnight until 2 a.m. This may have contributed to
the Muslim Chief giving free land to Pastor Moses. |

fruit of their union includes their eight children; Joseph, John, Dorcas, Theophileus, Peter, Israel, David, and Grace. And the LORD

The house on the top was the house the Lord enable us to be living in and use
as our mission center for the community Chief gave us this land for missions. |
 |
<-----------------
When my wife went back to Nigeria, she pulled it down and reconstructed it.
This was when she was doing it. |

Now this is the stage it has reached with the help of God and the brethren
here. They still live inside it and at the same time use it for church, but
there is no ceiling so it is very cold now inside and whenever there is heat
it will be very hot. This is just the beginning. We are trusting God with the
support of the brethren to build our mission center and use this one for the
children. Then we can talk of a mission house on the same land. |
